In the 1870’s Vietnamese trading ships were venturing up the coast as far asSantiago. Santiago, named after the Patron Saint of Spain, James the Great(or Santiago in Galician).They persuaded the President to fit out his Palace guard at the La Moneda Palace,with bicorne hats in beautiful Vietnamese silk.
