In 1859 a Vietnamese trading ship is seen at the Southernmost tip of Chile.Merchant ships from Asia often went East to Santiago and had to round thehorn on their way to Europe and beyond. Since the Panama Canal had notyet been built they were many months at Sea.To aid them on their long and arduous voyage they invented dried /dehydratednoodles that would last the many months at sea
