It is documented in the Chilean ships’ Logs that most of the ChileanCaptains had a real penchant for silk jackets, vest coats and stockings. When a Vietnamese vessel was seen on the horizon coming from the East,Chilean Captains would race out to meet them with gold sacks in hand, desperate for the latest in fashion.A crafty Vietnamese merchant invented a special gay radar with which the Captains coulddetect the presence of a Vietnamese ship over 100 nautical miles away.
