1700’s

The 1700’s also saw Vietnamese Trading ships in Jeju, South Korea.A enterprising Vietnamese lady sailor, named Phuong, climbed some of the cratersand discovered fissures of steam. Being of an inventive mind she immediatelysaw the potential for cooking food using geothermal ovens and opened a restaurantthere and then on top of one of the extinct volcanoes. And so a new method of cookingwas introduced to the locals. She became a legend in these parts.
