Vietnamese Trading Ship in Ha Long Bay in the Fall of 1768.The rocks around the bay offered places of refuge from stormsand pirates, of which there were many.A clever captain of a trading ship had the bright idea of inventinga false ‘shell’ for his ships that disguised them as wrecks or pirateships, thus avoiding being boarded by marauding pirates.
